what has improved my youtube experience substantially was turning off my watching history. it removes the main page and only shows you videos when you click on your subscriptions

(i know this is a rather generic opinion, alas) i feel like a large part of youtube's downfall is that people became more engrossed in maximising revenue/metrics over creating content that they themselves were interested in. hopefully some less cynical alternative pops up someday that manages to breach the ceiling of the networking effect
